The Black Bullitt....

Tuesday, March 31st the first stage of the journey across Route 66 began. The Black Bullitt was purchased at Gaudin Ford in Las Vegas and taken on a shakedown cruise before being put into storage out near the airport.

I'm going to have to come up with a name for this wolf in sheep's clothing. We would have called her a "sleeper" back in the day, you know what I mean, a plain-Jane with no tell-tail signs that it has some guts under the hood. The only visible identification is the word “Bullitt” dropped into a gun-sight graphic in the center of the faux gas cap on the decklid....

But looks can be deceiving, and this car is no exception. I was very impressed with the acceleration, every bit as strong as my '66 K Code when the four barrel carb kicks in. They say she'll do zero to 60 mph in 5 seconds, with a top end of 150 mph. Perhaps we'll verify that on a long straight stretch of Route 66 in Arizona or Texas. Just as impressive as the powertrain, were the handling characteristics. Instant steering response, unparalleled traction and rapid braking. The car felt like it was part of the road. This trip is going to be a blast!

Now I just have to wait 5 weeks before flying back to Las Vegas and getting the Bullitt out of storage. Then on to Santa Monica Pier for the beginning of the "Mother Road" adventure.

Check back on May 10th for the first leg; Santa Monica to Needles, California....

Stevoreno....Couldn't wait three years, but I'll consider this a reconnoiter run for a future road trip when we both are retired.
